Etsy Mud Team Membership Requirements

After reading these requirements, please go to our team page on Etsy to apply for membership.


This promotional team is only for makers working in clay.
This team is open to all clay artists, regardless of skill.

Please have your About page and Shop Policies filled out before applying. 

Shop Inventory
 – You must have at least 8 clay items in your shop when you apply, so we can get a good feel for your inventory. Shops must maintain at least 40% of their total inventory in handmade clay items. Pieces are to be made start to finish using wet clay or slip and can be wheel thrown, slab/hand-built, or formed from original molds. Only these original clay works may use the team tag in their listings. (etsymudteam) Items deemed mature by Etsy’s standard may not use the tag, and will not count towards your 40% clay items.

We require that you keep the first featured item in your shop, one that meets our team requirements, as this item is featured in the gallery of our website.

You may have other clay work in your shop, but no more than 10% of your total clay inventory may be created using alternative methods (ie: commercial molds, ram press) and this must be disclosed in those listings. These items may not use the team tag. Special circumstances can be made for those using these methods in non-traditional, experimental ways. Please see the team leaders for details.

Membership Dues – Membership dues are $15 per annum .

Payment for Etsy Mud Team dues are made by subscribing to an annual $15 Paypal subscription. Members will only need to do this one time unless for some reason they need to unsubscribe and then resubscribe this payment. If you are a current member and need to resubscribe to pay dues, you can find a link to subscribe on our Etsy team page (see link to page below).   New members will receive instructions on subscribing once they have been accepted to the team.  You can request to join the team via the following link to the team page:

Members who fail to pay their dues will be dropped from the Team. Members that leave the team can cancel their subscription from their Paypal account or from the “Unsubscribe Dues Payment” page in the Member area of this website.

Voluntary Team Participation – We hold a drawing for gift card prizes at the end of the year based on team participation credits. Participating to receive credits is not mandatory. You receive participation credits in the following ways:

1) Entering a challenge.  One entry per shop per challenge. You will receive one participation credit for each challenge you enter.

Our Event Schedule is posted on the website. A description of upcoming challenges can be found on the Calendar of Events page. We now open challenges for entry once we determine what they are and when they will occur.  Click on the Challenges link to see what challenges are open for entry and when the entries will close.  There is usually more than one with a future closing date to choose from. Please contact IslandGirlPottery (Jacqui ), Event Coordinator, with any questions regarding our events.

2) Serving as one of our volunteers performing the various tasks to support the team.  Volunteers receive 2 participation credits each year.

Discussion Posting – Participation in the discussions in our forums is not mandatory, but it is recommended for you to remain connected and get full benefit from the team. To locate our forums – from the Etsy home page, click Community, then Teams.  Once you are a member of the team, you will see our team page show up at the top of the page. Enter there and look for our forums.   For our weekly general discussions open to everyone, please join us here.­m-discussions . We start a new chat thread every Sunday morning. To save you having to read the entire discussion, we will be highlighting important announcements. These highlighted posts will appear at the beginning of discussion. They are also accessible by clicking on the “Show Thread Summary” at the top of any page.


* Remember – All memberships are reviewed on an annual basis. Members who unsubscribe from the membership subscription and fail to pay their membership when it becomes due will be dropped from the team. We also periodically review that shops maintain at least 40% of their total inventory in handmade clay items and that no more than 10% of your total clay inventory may be created using alternative method. However, there is no requirement to maintain inventory in your shop.
