My work is made in the Sgraffito method—means "to scratch". I was introduced to drawing in clay by an dear artist friend.

"Sgraffito" happens when leather hard clay is coated with a colored glaze, and then that colored glaze, in my case black, is drawn away. Wha la, Sgraffito!! Work goes through two kiln firings and is food safe. Hand wash these items, not happy in the dishwasher or soaking in the sink.

I love the permanence that comes from firing the color right into the material. Art media on paper just can't hold color this way. I've drawn all my life, but clay is such a wonderful, forgiving material. And, it's sort of alive because it has memory.

Everything I make is a one of a kind and built by hand. The stamps I use are of my own making, too!
