I currently live and work within minutes of the foothills of Mt. Rainier, and spend as much time creating in my studio as I possibly can.

I began working with clay quite by accident. As a sophomore in college I was assigned to be the campus pottery studio assistant as my work-study job. I learned how to fire the kilns, reclaim clay, mix glazes, and got to watch many talented potters practice their art. I've had periods that were & quot;clay free" but I always find my way back to it. It really was "kismet".

I love the idea of "kismet". It's a Turkish word that we've adopted into English meaning something like "fate" or "destiny". Life is full of twists and bends and unexpected but important intersections!

I love producing things that people can use in daily life. I always enjoy my food more when I eat out of a bowl I made, or put on earrings that my sister made. It's a way to bring some sense of connectedness back to our world. Like shopping at farmer's markets, or planting your own garden, the product is qualitatively better.
